Jesus can calm any storm.
But what about having faith through the storm? Check out Matthew 8:23-27:
23 Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples.24 Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.
27 The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!”
Jesus chastises the disciples for their “little faith.” We might assume that they should have known he’d calm the storm (which he did).
But what if their lack of faith was not trusting his provision through the storm? The Son of God was in their midst, but they were worried about a storm. Their lack of faith was being more afraid of the storm than they were sure of Jesus.
Sometimes we pray for God to calm the storms of our lives, but they don’t seem to go away. During these times God is giving you an opportunity for greater faith by trusting Him in the midst of the storm.
He can calm the storm. But you might wonder why He doesn’t seem to calm your storm, and this is when you ought to remember that He guides us through all storms, and builds up a stronger faith because of it.
